Frequently asked questions about our legal coaching program

What is legal coaching?

Legal coaching is a new way of getting help from a lawyer. Instead of having a lawyer do everything for you--which typically costs thousands of dollars--a legal coach provides guidance, support, and education to clients who want to represent themselves in legal proceedings. A legal coach can help clients understand the legal process, identify their legal issues, develop strategies to resolve them, and prepare legal documents. Through coaching, a lawyer will provide a client with the tools and knowledge they need to represent themselves effectively.

Is legal coaching right for you?

Legal coaching is often used by clients who cannot afford full legal representation, or who prefer to handle their legal matters independently while still benefiting from the guidance and support of a lawyer. Our legal coaches can help you with anything family-law related whether that is starting a divorce or custody case, creating a detailed parenting plan, negotiating a fair settlement, preparing for trial, enforcing a family law judgment, or modifying an existing family law judgment.

How does the pay-as-you-go legal coaching program work?

Our pay-as-you-go legal coaching program allows clients to receive coaching and guidance on legal matters when they need it, without having to commit to a long-term engagement or pay an expensive retainer deposit. Clients can self-schedule appointments online and pay for the coaching session at the time of booking. We designed our pay-as-you-go coaching program to provide maximum flexibility and convenience for clients who may have limited availability or need immediate assistance with a legal issue.

What is the cost of pay-as-you-go legal coaching?

We provide all our services on a sliding scale, which means that the cost of our legal coaching appointments varies based on your income or financial situation. Our coaching appointments start at $125 per hour for our lowest income clients. Clients can choose the length of the coaching session and pay for only the time they need. The total cost of legal coaching will depend on the frequency of meetings and the complexity of the legal issues in your case. We do not require an initial retainer deposit or monthly payment plan to get started in our coaching program. Click here to determine your hourly rate and where you fall on our sliding scale.

What's included in the pay-as-you-go legal coaching program?

In addition to gaining 1-on-1 access to an experienced family law attorney, we also provide you with the tools you need to carry out our advice and suggestions. These tools includes self-help guides, court forms, insider tips and tricks, and more.

What types of cases can legal coaches help with?

We are able to help people with most legal issues related to the ending of a relationship including divorce, custody, dissolution of a domestic partnership, restraining orders, protective orders, stalking orders, and grandparent or stepparent visitation or custody issues.

Are legal coaching services available throughout Oregon?

Yes. Our legal coaches work remotely and meet with clients by phone and video. This means we can help clients regardless of where they live as long as they have an Oregon family law case.
