Example Declaration
"I give, devise, bequeath, ______ [insert dollar amount or % amount of all the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to] The Commons Law Center, Federal Tax ID #81-2672973, or its successor organization, to be used for its general needs and purposes."
Contact us at development@thecommonlawcenter.org for more information on how to include The Commons in your estate plan.
Using your IRA, 401(k), or other retirement savings account to give is a meaningful way to support your community while potentially reducing your tax burden.
If you are age 70½ or older, you can make a tax-free gift directly from your IRA to The Commons Law Center. This contribution can count toward your annual required minimum distribution (RMD). To get started, contact your retirement plan administrator and request the transfer.
You may contribute through a donor-advised fund (DAF) by making a tax-deductible donation to the fund, which is typically managed by a sponsoring organization such as a financial institution or community foundation. Once the contribution is made, you may recommend grants from the DAF to The Commons Law Center, EIN 81-2672973.
You may be able to increase the impact of your donation by applying for an employer matching gift. Many companies match contributions made by employees, and some also extend this benefit to retirees or even provide grants for volunteer hours. In most cases, donations are matched dollar for dollar—though some employers may double or even triple your gift. Reach out to your Human Resources department to learn more and get started!
